Growlanser: Heritage of War
  by Seth "forweg" Weisend

Ever since the days of Fire Emblem and Shining Force, strategy RPGs have provided an alternative to their more traditional cousins. SRPGs do away with static combat, focus on large-scale warfare instead. None of the exploration or dungeon-crawling that is typically found in the regular RPGs. Rather, tactical, grid-based battles take the fore.

Into this tradition comes the Growlanser series, which has been an SRPG staple in Japan since 1999. Western gamers are probably most familiar with a package release of Growlanser ...

Warriors Orochi
  by Seth "forweg" Weisend

Koei's long-running Warriors franchise has long garnered mostly disdain from critics and non-fans. Every game is the same, they say, with virtually no significant differences between installments. hack-and-slash style of play has rarely been fundamentally altered, and there have been only minute visual improvements since Dynasty Warriors 2.

Orochi Warriors, the latest game in the series, looks to change many of those negative trends. Due for release on both the PS2 and Xbox 360, Cao Cao and crew return for yet more ...

God of War 2
God of War was unquestionably the biggest action game for the PS2 when it hit. Heck, it still provides the best action, pacing, environments, and graphics on the PS2. No game has close since its release; and in the big pool that is Sony’s first party exclusive titles, God of War is taking up more than its share of the water. To some it is the Halo for the PS2, but that comparison is so hard to argue on so many levels I won’t even try. It's probably ...

Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner
While the next-gen race has already started a lot of talk within the gaming community, there’s one thing that Sony has stuck to throughout all the banter: Each of their systems is for ten years. Whether you like Sony or not, you have to admit that they have consistently pushed content out for the PS2, even with the PS3 looming in the not-too-far distance. Software sales also prove that the PS2 seems to have a lot of life left in it, and publishers are aiming to make the ...

Bully
The kings of controversy are at it again. Rockstar is a company that has had their share of the spotlight due to generically fun games and a lot of hype from controversy. was only a few days after Rockstar announced Bully--where players could fulfill the role of a bully--that parents, teachers, and politicians were all over the game. Victims of former [and current] bullies spoke out emotionally how a game like Bully could only further ruin the lives of nerds. Parents wrote taut letters about the distress their ...

Rayman Raving Rabbids
Whoever thought cute, cuddly little creatures could be so mischievously dangerous? While being promoted with a lot of comical flair for multiple platforms, at its heart Rayman Raving Rabbids is a mini-game, multi-genre affair. The game will feature more than 70 different mini-games that must be completed in what appears to be a hilarious story mode. An additional trial mode can be played via single-player or with up to four-players. Ubisoft also seems to be aiming for almost every kind of gamer. As it appears the title will ...

The third installment of the revitalized Spyhunter series now has a face behind the Interceptor’s wheel. That face happens to be action-movie star, and former wrestler, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. The story this game actually starts as a prequel to the former two Spyhunter games. The infamous Interceptor has just been finished, and during the shipment process it’s stolen by the evil NOSTRA organization. Alex Decker (The Rock) is left for dead during the raid and the lead scientist is captured along with the Interceptor.
