The racers are also pretty over-the-top, too. Two of the ten racers were available for play, and both varied in their playing mechanics. One team consisted of a newly murdered married couple, blasting their way through tracks in what looks like an Oldsmobile. They’re kind of slow but they handle turns pretty well. The other team consists of two brutes driving a modified chariot on what looks like a dune buggy. There’s a guy in the back that swings a giant hammer when player’s press either attack button. The two brutes were a bit faster on the given track (or maybe just easier to handle) and proved to be quite vicious with their giant hammer.
One thing to note, though, is that the tracks aren’t designed so much for speed as they are for battle racing. Maybe it was just the one track that was available to race on, but the action was more-so oriented around blowing each other up and (literally) fighting for first place. Controlling the racer was quite simple and anyone who’s played any arcade racer will be right at home with the simplistic driving mechanics in this game. Unlike a lot of other recent arcade titles, the physics in this game weren’t tuned to house semi-realism over an arcade core.

Visually the game has come along nicely, for what it is. The models are made adequately, featuring some well-rounded edges and clean lighting. It’s nothing eye-popping but the vehicles were decent enough and the one track available wasn’t badly designed. The texture mapping was probably better suited to the themes than the model files, however. More importantly, though, is that the game does feature some rocking tunes. From the options menu to the actual race, the game is packed with heavy metal anthems. Earache Extreme Metal Racing is scheduled for release in November for the PS2 and PC, and later in the year for the PSP.
